The lads have done it, two down just a little canoe to finish. Well done, what it must feel like still to have 24+ hours of canoeing ahead of you having already done a bob Graham and the length of the UK on a bike……
Riders who like it light – brains and speed !

Snot !
I’ve had nearly 3 weeks off training. It started with a cold which then spread to my sinus’s. I’ve never had sinusitis before. It’s horrible, constant nagging headaches and toothache join the almost limitless flow of luminous yellow snot.
With the Denmark training camp looming, let alone the first world cup race in Hungary the following week, I was starting to get worried. A bit of Googling for treatment options has seen me with my head over a hot bowl of steamy Olbas oil and a search through Boots for a decongestant not on the UK anti-doping banned list. In the end I decided to try a do or die run on Tuesday night at club training on Cannock Chase. I was even late arriving there having had a puncture on the motorway (when it rains it pours it seems) so only had time to run a short course before it got dark.
Other than a slightly fuzzy balance feeling where the world seemed to wobble slightly I was fine, the snot clearing in the first few controls. I ran the whole 25 minute course perfectly at about 85% effort until the last control which I overshot, mis-sreading the map due to darkness falling and sweat in my eyes.
Top tip though for the time being: don’t overtake me on the right in a mass start in Hungary! I have a defense mechanism in place at present…..
Skiing !
Sorry for no postings I have been skiing, see below
Earthquakes!

The last month has had many of us in the UK very glad we do not live in an area of the world prone to huge earthquakes. First Christchurch and now Japan. The Christchurch earthquake particularly scared me as in 1997 Cath and I lived and worked there for 6 months following leaving university.
I am still trying to find out if our old house is in one piece, it is located in the ‘red zone’ on the corner of Manchester and Peterborough Streets, in the cordoned off CBD in the centre of the city which currently still has no public access. The Church of St Luke’s next door is more or less completely destroyed from what I can see of photographs published on the web and the Collapsed Pyne Gould Building just round the corner was on my morning walk to work !
Both of us had permanent job offers in the city and so easily could have emigrated. We also know quite a few people who have moved to South Island, New Zealand, it being such a wonderful country, just scary…
So my thoughts go out to all those families who have lost so much both in the South and North Pacific in the past month, I just cant imagine what it must be like to go through something like that………
European MTBO Camp 2011 – preview
A small team of Brits will be heading out to northern Denmark in early April to spend 4 days racing and training. The camp last year was in Southern Sweden, but this year the annual international camp with over 120 riders from 10 nations will be converging on the small town of Skive, with accommodation in military barracks and training in the surrounding forests.
The organisers have several sponsors already on board, with a Cannondale mountain bike as a prize on offer as well as, by the looks of it, a local brewery.
More details can be found at http://www.mtbocamp2011.dk
THE EPIC TRI
In April 2011, Ant Emmet and Bruce Duncan will set out to complete an epic continuous challenge.
They will start in the lakes with a Bob Graham round (72 miles, 42 Mountain Tops, 24 Hours) then drive straight to northern Scotland where they will then ride non stop the length of the country on a tandem bike to Lands End (JOGLE)……. Then drive to Devises to race in the Devizes to Westminster Kayak race (the course record being some 15 hours).
BONKERS!
Bruce is an Ex Walton Chaser who grew up orienteering on Cannock Chase. He has represented GB for Mountain Bike Orienteering and is one of the UK's top adventure racers.
They are raising money for Cancer Research UK. Bruce lost his Mum to Pancreatic Cancer 7 years ago, and they feel that this will be a fitting event to honour Hilary. It will be a massive journey for them and they both hope to be able to show the same grit and determination that Bruce's mum showed.
Good Luck chaps!
