Stripping and Weighing

A year on and with no racing this weekend I thought it a good time to strip my Corratec Bow and give it a good service. Whilst apart I thought I would have a little session with the kitchen scales (shhh dont tell Cath) and look for some cost effective weight savings before I put it back together. I might even treat the frame to a little Purple Harry polish 😉

  1. Hard to say where to start making it lighter… I thought the wheels seamed heavy but then just weighed mine 1675g and 2040g still got the disks on… I know I am over heavey tyre wise but I got fed up of punctureing and the sealant failing so went for proper UST this time at 720g a piece.

I have been trying to work the weights for a light full sus 29er to see if I can justify somthing new for the 24 hour and general racing. To get a real low weight everything needs to be top notch and it ends up way expensive.

  2. And, following on from Alan, are you sure you really need 6 bolts? Could you not get away with 4 or 5?

  3. Hey Stodge..that’s pretty too much..but corratec is really
2kg? only some cheap suggestions: grips -> extralite
ultragrip bar -> something about 110g.. front mech ->
go for a road one and made your crank 40-26 wheels are heavy
too…in the italian team many of us have “Spada wheel” (Spada Hub
with ZTR rims): cheap and light! BYE!
